We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Malik Gilbert-Cross, a foundational member of the Original Scraper Bike Team. Malik joined us at the very inception of our movement in 2006 and his loss has profoundly impacted our team and the entire community.
Malik was a devoted father to his 9-year-old son, who is also a proud member of the Original Scraper Bike Team. He was also a father figure to countless nephews and young people throughout our community. It’s difficult to imagine another child growing up fatherless due to senseless gun violence, and our hearts ache for his son.
The Scraper Bike Team was created as a violence prevention initiative. Our mission is to provide an alternative to guns and gangs for youth in our community. We believe that through creative expression, community engagement, and positive mentorship, we can offer a path away from violence and towards a brighter future. We strive to be a beacon of hope, providing a safe and constructive outlet for young people to channel their energy and build positive relationships.
Malik embodied this mission. He had a remarkable presence, always lighting up a room with his spirit. He was consistently a voice of reason, hope, and inspiration to everyone around him. We are truly honored to have known Malik Gilbert-Cross. We promise to keep his son and family deeply connected to everything we do. He will live forever in our memories and in the spirit of the Scraper Bike movement.
Rest In Power, Brother Malik Gilbert-Cross.
Ride In Peace!
